Death Tarot Card
The basic symbols of this card are Skeletal Death in black robes or armor. There may be a scythe or a flag featuring a five petaled rose. There may be other figures in the field; the most common and recurring being that of a child. This card is about transformation, passage, and change. The Death card symbolizes transformation, making way for the new, loss, failure, illness or death, and bad luck; and in reverse stands for immobility, slow changes, a narrow escape, and cheating death.

As the story progresses, the Fool after leaving the tree from which he hung, passes through a field, still clearing his thoughts. He sees a rising sun, and a skeleton in black armor on a white horse. He recognizes Death and asks if he had died. The skeleton answers that in a way he had died, as he had sacrificed his old world and his old self. He had been reborn, as symbolized by the rising sun, and that it was the time of great transformation.

The Fool feels this to be true, and understands all great transformations occur by building afresh on bare foundations.

For the Querent, the card means a transition from the lower to the higher and to the highest.
