Temperance Tarot Card
The basic symbols of this card are an angel – often female, and sometimes genderless, a pool of water or a river, two cups with fluid flowing between them. This is a difficult card to interpret, and is about blending of opposites, and achieving synthesis. This card symbolizes moderation, temperance, patience, harmony, fusion, good influence, and confidence; and in reverse stands for discord, conflict, disunion, hostility, frustration, and impatience.

The story progresses with the Fool continuing on his spiritual path, wondering how to reconcile the two opposites – material and spiritual, and death and birth. He comes upon an angel standing with one foot in the river and one on a rock, pouring fluid from one cup into the other. On drawing nearer, the Fool realizes that from one cup flows water, whereas from the other flows fire. Astonished, the Fool asks how could fire and water blend. The Angel answers that the right vessels and the right proportions are required. All opposites, be it fire and water, man and woman, thesis and anti-thesis, can be blended to harmonize.

For the Querent, this card is a warning to temper his behavior, a reminder that the irreconcilable opposites can be reconciled.
